The Art:
This Mourning Dove is accompanied by a quote from Shel Silverstein:
'Listen to the mustn'ts child. Listen to the don'ts. Listen to the shouldn'ts, the impossibles, the won'ts. Listen to the never-haves, then listen close to me . . . Anything can happen child. Anything can be.

The Story:
My mom was a collector. Shells, rocks, quotes & sayings… to name a few. In her ‘office’ she had little pieces of paper pinned and taped all over — each with a little quote or reminder of how to live, how to love, how to be. As I was going through some of my Mom’s things last month, I came across this really cool notepad with quotes at the bottom of each page. My first thought was that I wanted to draw on each page. A bird of course.

Turns out that my sister gifted our mom that notepad and in turn, gifted it to me. I coated the pages with a watercolor ground and painted , painted, painted. I LOVE the loosey-washy-sketchy feel. It's like having an original page from one of my art books.
