The Art:
This Kestrel is accompanied by a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson:
'Guard well your spare moments. They are like uncut diamonds. Discard them and their value will never be known. Improve them and they will become the brightest gems in a useful life.'

The Story:
My mom was a collector. Shells, rocks, quotes & sayings… to name a few. In her ‘office’ she had little pieces of paper pinned and taped all over — each with a little quote or reminder of how to live, how to love, how to be. As I was going through some of my Mom’s things last month, I came across this really cool notepad with quotes at the bottom of each page. My first thought was that I wanted to draw on each page. A bird of course.

Turns out that my sister gifted our mom that notepad and in turn, gifted it to me. I coated the pages with a watercolor ground and painted , painted, painted. I LOVE the loosey-washy-sketchy feel. It's like having an original page from one of my art books.
